Zur Zeit leben hier 52 konfiszierte MalaienbÀren. (Stand 05.02.2007) Da diese Tiere betrÀchtliche SchÀden an Kokospalmen- und anderen Plantagen anrichten können, werden sie gejagt. Einigen Körperteilen, insbesondere der GallenflÃŒssigkeit, werden wie beim KragenbÀren heilende KrÀfte zugeschrieben. In Ostasien werden Jungtiere oft zu Haustieren gemacht; sobald sie ausgewachsen sind, werden sie geschlachtet, um an die verwertbaren Körperteile zu gelangen. Eine weitere Bedrohung stellt der Verlust ihres Lebensraumes durch umfangreiche Waldrodungen dar. Aus diesen GrÃŒnden sind die BestÀnde des MalaienbÀren im RÃŒckgang begriffen, unklar ist allerdings, in welchem Ausmaß. In Indien sind sie vermutlich ausgestorben, in China sind sie von der Ausrottung bedroht. In vielen sÃŒdostasiatischen LÀndern sind keine Angaben ÃŒber die Populationsgröße verfÃŒgbar, sodass die IUCN die Art unter „zuwenig Daten vorhanden“ (data deficient) listet. Bislang konnte das Feuer glÃŒcklicherweise außerhalb der Reichweite empfindlicher Schutzgebiete oder Anpflanzungen gehalten werden. Das erforderte allerdings den vollen Einsatz der BOS-Mitarbeiter und der Bevölkerung.</bos:content><bos:content lang="en">Like Borneo or Indonesia Samboja Lestari is also vulnerable to fires. So far fires have been kept away from the sensitive protected areas or cultivations. Dieser Wald wird als Trainingswald fÃŒr die Orang-Utans genutzt. Alles was die Tiere zum Überleben in freier Wildbahn können mÃŒssen, lernen sie unter anderem hier im Wald. Dazu gehört natÃŒrlich das Klettern und der Nestbau in den BÀumen, Genießbares von Ungenießbarem unterscheiden und mit seinen Artgenossen auskommen können.</bos:content><bos:content lang="en">                    Communities within and surrounding Samboja Lestari have managed to preserve some of the rainforest which is still used by wild animals and birds and also by BOS.&#13; 
    7 BOS has designed and built a training forest for the orangutans it has rescued within the forest. It is here that the rescued orangutans are rehabilitated and taught a range of skills including climbimg, building nests, discovering edible and inedible foods and social interaction between one another to enable them to learn how to survive when they are released back into the wild.</bos:content><bos:content lang="da">                     Heldigvis er rester af halvejs intakt regnskov stadig bevaret i Samboja Lestari's omrÃ¥de. Von hier aus kann das Auswilderungs- und Forschungsgebiet im weniger als 100km entfernten Meratus-Regenwald ÃŒberflogen werden. Aus der Luft können Wilderer und illegale Holzdiebe ausfindig gemacht und verfolgt werden. Samboja Lestari wird natÃŒrlich „quadratmeterweise“ dokumentiert: ein Modellflugzeug ausgestattet mit einer Kamera hat Aufnahmen gemacht -schauen sie sich das Video an!</bos:content><bos:content lang="en">                     This year, at the edge of Samboja Lestari, a runway for BOS' own ultralight aircraft was established. Now it is possible to fly to and monitor the reintroduction and research area 'Meratus', which is less than 100 km far away. Die reine Tragzeit betrÀgt rund 95 Tage, allerdings kann es bei ihnen wie bei anderen BÀren auch zu einer verzögerten Einnistung der befruchteten Eizelle in den Uterus kommen, sodass zwischen Paarung und Geburt 240 Tage liegen können. Meist kommen ein oder zwei, rund 325 Gramm schwere Jungtiere zur Welt, sie sind blind, nackt und hilflos. Sie bleiben bei der Mutter, bis sie ausgewachsen sind, die Geschlechtsreife tritt mit rund drei Jahren ein. Auch Termiten werden gerne verzehrt, zu diesem Zweck brechen sie die Baue auf und halten die Vorderpfoten abwechselnd hinein. Sobald genug Beutetiere daraufgeklettert sind, schlecken sie die Pranken ab. Auch FrÃŒchte, KokosnÃŒsse und anderes Pflanzenmaterial gehört zu ihrer Nahrung. Die kurze Schnauze hat eine recht helle, gelbliche oder orangene FÀrbung, die sich oft bis ÃŒber die Augen hinaus ausdehnt. Charakteristisch fÃŒr diese Art ist die lange Zunge, die Ohren sind klein und rund. Charakteristisch sind die großen, gebogenen und spitzen Krallen sowie die nackten Sohlen der Tatzen, was Anpassungen an die kletternde Lebensweise darstellt.&#13; 
     22Ein ausgewachsenes Tier erreicht eine KörperlÀnge von rund 100 bis 140 Zentimeter und eine Schulterhöhe von 70 Zentimetern, der Schwanz ist ein 3 bis 7 Zentimeter langer Stummel. Das Gewicht variiert zwischen 27 und 65 Kilogramm, wobei die MÀnnchen deutlich schwerer als die Weibchen werden.&#13;

Krankheiten, die fÃŒr den Menschen ungefÀhrlich sind, können fÃŒr den Orang-Utan tödlich sein. They awaken motherly instincts in most people. It is a vital responsibility of BOS to ensure that only highly trained and experienced personnel are chosen to have direct contact with all rescued orangutans.&#13; 
     59The staff at BOS that have direct  contact with the orangutans have complete health checks before being allowed to start their training with the animals. The DNA of the orangutan differs by only 3% to human beings and therefore the risk of transmitting diseases to the orangutans is very high. Diseases that do not harm humans can be life threatening to an orangutan.</bos:content><bos:content lang="da">Orangutanger ser sÞde og nuttede ud, specielt de smÃ¥! Auf einer FlÀche von 80-90 ha wird ein Großteil des botanischen Reichtums Borneos bewahrt. Alle bislang erforschten bzw. entdeckten Baumarten Borneos sollen hier wachsen. Zur Zeit ist das Arboretum 218 Arten reich.</bos:content><bos:content lang="en">                     The Arboretum, which is developing in the centre of the protected area, will add up to 3000 plant species. Thus the Arboretum of Samboja Lestari will be more species-rich than the famous botanical garden in Bogor on Java. A surface of 80-90 hectares retains most of the botanical wealth of Borneo.
